Noah Goes for a Swim

Noah went for his first swim today at Foss Swim School in Blaine, MN. He joined 7 of his baby friends for a private pool party in 90 degree water. While some of the more skinny babies were shivering and blue, Noah's fat served him well. Not only did it keep him warm, but he floated quite well too. He's already a pro at the doggie paddle. He got his legs kicking and his arms paddling with the best of them.

More Family- The Soderbergs

Noah met more family today. He, Kristin, and Grandma & Grandpa Harrold visited Kristin's Aunt Mim & Uncle Dick in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Kristin's cousin Karen came to meet him as well. Noah seemed quite excited that he has more family to try to impress. Aunt Mim still has her touch with the babies!

Robin!

This is Robin and Noah. Steven, Noah and I first met Robin when we wearily straggled into our first "New Parent Connection" (a cooperative effort between Mercy Hospital and the ECFE program of Anoka-Hennepin School District) session at Mercy when Noah was 5 weeks old. What a lifesaver she was! Noah and I faithfully went every week to her Thursday afternoon group, to receive support and meet with other new parents. Steven would join us as able during his work day. Sadly, Noah and I just graduated from the group last week, as it mainly focuses on birth through 4 months. We will be frequent visitors in the future, however. And since there was a great bunch of moms and babies who all graduated just recently, we've continued meeting at our homes on a weekly basis.

Robin was also our "You and Me Baby" class instructor. She's not only a phenomenal support group facilitator, but also an excellent child development specialist/educator.

Last Day of "You and Me Baby" Class

The class Noah and I took through ECFE (Early Child & Family Education) for the last 15 weeks concluded today. We started when he was 6 weeks old, and he's now almost 5 1/2 months. What a change there has been in those 4 months. We plan to take the class again starting on February 1st, since he is not yet old enough to qualify for the "Busy Babies" class that starts at 7 months. We're also looking at swimming classes this late Winter/Early Spring, which start when the baby is 6 months or more.

Baby's names from left to right:
1st row-Peyton, Caiden, Levi, Matthew, Natalie, Sylvia
2nd row-Mia, Noah, Emily, Alexa, Nicholas

We had a fun party today with treats, homemade toys, footprints, play, and our traditional interactive baby songs.

Toes!

Noah found his toes today. He can finally reach them over that belly of his.

Teeth update

Noah's first two teeth are almost all the way out......they are sharp! He is teething like there is no tomorrow. We are scared to look in there as we may find more. He seems to take it all in stride.

New Trick

This is Noah's latest discovery. He found he can squish his face up, and sometimes does it over and over and over... Maybe he's practicing for when he starts eating vegetables!

Laura from Dubai visits Noah!

Kristin's friend Laura who is visiting "home" (of St.Paul) from Dubai UAE where she is teaching school, spent some time with Noah during the week. She gave Noah a carved wooden camel and a wonderful bib with a purple camel on the front. I bet he is the only kid in Minnesota with a purple camel bib. It was a brief visit with Laura but it was good to see her. Good luck with all your travels. Check out her blog at http://allora71.blogspot.com.

Steven's Friend Julie Vangelos came over with her husband and two adorable children for a quick visit to see Noah, Kiss his Cheeks and say "Hi" to Steven and Kristin. It was good to see them and their children. Anthony showed Steven What to expect in 2-3 years. Wow Julie you did great!

A Christmas Trip To Ohio

Noah had quite an adventure over the Christmas holiday as he traveled with Mom and Dad to Ohio. He did OK on the flight out and back despite having a cold and cutting his first teeth. More on teeth as they develop. When he arrived he was met with Love and affection by his Grandma and Grandpa Scherger and then later by Great Grandma, Uncle Mike and Aunt Laurie. Life was a bit different there with not the usual accommodations of home but he got cleaned up and enjoyed the holiday. Thanks to Steve's Mom and Dad as they did a Great Job of welcoming baby Noah to their home.

Nicholas

Yesterday the Gregas came over to celebrate Christmas with us. Here's a picture of Nick and Noah riding together on Steven's leg. This is Noah's latest favorite game. Despite being 5 weeks younger than Nick, he is still bigger than him, although Nick is doing a good job recently of catching up in height.

For all those curious about Noah's noisy breathing, the doctor believes it is a fairly common condition called Laryngeal Malacia. Basically all that means is that there is a softening of the structures around his Larynx. There is a collapse of the supraglottic laryngeal structures. This produces symptoms on inspiration since these floppy structures, such as the epiglottis and aryepiglottic folds, may be pulled into the airway during inspiration. As normal cartilaginous development occurs, symptoms improve. Typically they outgrow this anywhere from 6 months to a year, although for some it goes a little longer.

Rice Cereal!

Noah started rice cereal yesterday. He wore his "What is this? I'm not sure I like it" expression initially, but was soon swallowing away. This picture was obviously before the cereal, taken earlier in the day by his Grandma Harrold.

Pajama Party!

Noah went to his first pajama party last Friday evening. While 4 of us moms from "Baby & Me" class, and "New Parent Connection Group" got together for some gabbing and treats, the "kids" hung out in their PJ's. From left to right is Levi, Ashley, Noah, and Gabriel. The other three are all about 1 month older than Noah, but he has Ashley and Gabriel beat in size!

Levi

This is Levi (on the left), a friend of Noah's from ECFE "Baby & Me" class. Although they are the 2nd and 3rd youngest, they are both the brutes of the class! Levi is newly sporting 2 bottom teeth!

UFF DA!!!! Naked babies and Lutefisk

Noah just loves to be naked! After the bath time with Mom is a great time. He enjoys his tummy time, and rolling over on the towel on the center island of the kitchen after his bath.

Noah was also a great hit at the Lutefisk dinner Kristin and I went to at Church last night. We told everyone that we were going to try him on his first (semi) solid food tonight. Lots of laughs. Actually the meal was good. (we mostly ate meatballs) but we did enjoy the dinner with all the Scandinavian trimmings. Uff Da!!!
